Breakdown Description:
CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:
Sam (lead): Early- to mid-twenties. Empathic but introverted and socially awkward, Sam finds self-expression through video diaries that he creates for himself. He’s smart and talented, and may emerge one day as a substantive artist, but he’s not there yet. His attempts at connection with Anna, and his ideas about her marital situation, are based on an elaborate fiction of his own creation, and the realization of her true nature proves to be his undoing. A post-modern Icarus.

Anna (lead): Mid-thirties. She married, early, an older man she had once beguiled, but in ten years something has gone horribly wrong. She needs her husband to adore her, and the source of her misery lies, in part, in the loss of her ability to enchant him. She combats her own powerlessness in the marriage with habitual, instinctive manipulation. Ironically, she loves her husband; he’s the only man she’s ever loved.

Frank (supporting): Mid-forties to early fifties. Successful enough professionally, it’s no fluke that he married someone as damaged as Anna. Disengaged, unreflective, he does not understand Anna’s apparent dissatisfaction with their marriage and does not know how to repair it. Recently he has begun to suspect infidelity on her part. Unable to deal with his anger, it has hastened the downward spiral of their relationship. In his own way, he continues to need his wife.
